Coliseum
The Colosseum, or the Coliseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre is an elliptical amphitheatre in the center of the city of Rome, in Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering. It was built between eight to ten years.
The Coliseum was built during Roman Empire by emperors Vespasian and Domician. It’s called “Coliseum”, because there’s a statue near the building called “Colossus Nero”.
The amphitheatre was used as a stage for gladiator fights, shows with wild animals and naval battles, because the it  had a system that turned the arena in a big pond.
It had the capacity to receive ninety thousand spectators and 48 meters high
It was damaged by earthquakes, and it was stolen as well. “From the 14th century, after it was damaged again by an earthquake, it was used as a stone quarry. Many palaces were built of stone taken from its walls.
Actually the Coliseum is the place of Catholic Church ceremonies and it’s very visited.
In 2007, it was elected as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
