Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu means "Old Mountain" and “The Lost City of the Incas”.
The city was discovery in 1911.
The Inca empire did not have any writing systems, so little is known about their civilization.
The Imperor was Sapa Inca, a “ god in earth”.
It was a hierarchy society: nobles, middle class, lower class.
They had a well developed agriculture and rich handcraft.
The world was created by Viracocha, according to the Inca legend.
They believed in many gods related to nature: god of rain, god of wind, god of thunder. The most powerful was Sun God.
The architecture let the sun shine through the city.
They made a lot of animal sacrifices for helping them in wars, harvests, drought etc
The quipo was an instrument with colorful cords and knots. Each color represented some information: harvest, people, taxes...
Machu Picchu is located at 2500 meters above sea level.
It is visited by 500.000 tourists every year.

  1. The night before Maricelia's presentation, she, her children and some of their friends were talking about the Incas history and all the magic world that was left behind them.
According to her, it was really one moment in time when they had the chance of learning new knowledge and being happy together.
As Maricelia, my dear student, said: "It was like a party in her bedroom that night. Everybody was trying to help, to learn, to colaborate, to draw special signals like those the Incas drew in the desert."
    Curiosity was in the air.
Thanks, Maricelia, for your happiness and great oral performance!
