Big Ben in London

I’m going to talk about London

It’s one of the world largest city with strong traditions and is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom.

London is a Cosmopolitan metropolis with about 7.4 million residents. Today, it is one of the largest political, commercial, economic and cultural world.

The city will host the 2012 Olympics.

Now, I’m going to talk about           the Big Ben.

Although many people think that Big Ben is the name given to the clock or the tower where the clock is, Big Ben is in fact a 13-ton bell.

The bell is so famous that the BBC London radio broadcasts their bells live. It is in the tower of St. Stephen, it has 98 meters and is a part of the architectural ensemble of the British Parliament.

Big Ben was designed by Edmund Beckett Denison and was installed in 1859. Its name honors Sir Benjamin Hall, the first commissioner of works.

Although the Big Ben is one of the most famous tourist attractions of London and the world, the interior of the tower is not open to the general public due to security problems.
